Barry Saunders is one of New Zealand's most consistently successful recording artists, having sold more than 100,000 albums
with his band The Warratahs (for which he also writes the songs) and his four solo albums.
Barry has won numerous awards, including 'Songwriter of the Year', 'Vocalist of the Year', and twice won 'Country Album of the
Year'. Songs such as Hands of My Heart, Maureen, Bruno's Last Ride, Fools Paradise and St Peter's Rendezvous have enjoyed
considerable commercial airplay both in New Zealand and abroad.
As with his previous acclaimed "Red Morning" album, "Zodiac" has again been produced by David Long, (producer Fur Patrol,
guitarist Muttonbirds) with musicians including Long, Craig Terris on drums, Jules Desmond on bass, fellow Warratah Nik
Brown on violin and backing vocals from Samuel Flynn Scott and Caroline Easther.
The album was recorded at Trident Studios in Wellington "Originally it was to be four songs toward a ‘best of’ album, but the
baby started to grow and we ended up with a new album." says Barry. "I loved the raw feel of the band and once again felt like the
songs were moving somewhere.
The album has a version of The Phoenix Foundation’s Going Fishing which Barry has turned into a country ballad. He also played
piano for the first time on this album.
