Shona Laing started her career in the early seventies,winning talent shows and making numerous TV appearances.She moved to the UK in 1975 ,releasing singles on EMI ,and returned to New Zealand in the early eighties. She achieved international success, most notably with singles "(Glad I'm) Not a Kennedy" and "Soviet Snow".

Shona Laing is due to be inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame as the Legacy Award recipient at the 2013 New Zealand Music Awards in November 2013
