Mark Williams was one of New Zealand’s top recording stars of the 1970’s.In 1970 at age sixteen,Mark formed a group with school mates from Dargaville High. Calling themselves The Face, they won the Northland heat of the National Battle of the Bands in 1971 and came third in the national final. Judge Lew Pryme could see they had potential so became their manager, and in 1973 urged Mark to go solo, the timing coinciding with the launch of the TV series Free Ride, on which Mark gained much exposure. A recording contract with EMI followed and with Alan Galbraith producing Mark’s first single ‘Yesterday Was Just the Beginning of my Life’ was recorded. Released in May 1975, it became a number one hit six weeks later. His first self titled album followed peaking at number two. To top off a great year it won awards for Alan as top producer, Mark for Best Performance and also Best Artist. A second album ‘Sweet Trials’ was not as successful, but in 1976 a superb album ‘Taking It All In Stride’ put him back on top, winning two technical awards and Entertainer of the Year for the second time. Mark moved to Australia in 1978 where he made three albums for CBS and Alberts. He was most recently scene on NZ TV as the music coach of Bardot on the series Australian Pop Stars. Included on this CD are all Mark's biggest hits plus the entire hit album ‘Taking It All In Stride’.
